USDT TRC20 Transfer Fee: How Much Does It Cost?
What you will read

Sending USDT on TRON can require roughly 6.4 TRX or 13 TRX for Energy when your wallet has no available Energy, depending on whether the recipient already holds USDT. Bandwidth may add a separate charge. These are estimates based on approximately 64,000 or 130,000 Energy at 100 sun per unit—not a fixed fee for every transfer. Your available resources and the network’s current parameters determine the actual cost.

USDT TRC20 transfer fee breakdown

For a standard transfer from a self-custody wallet, these examples show the Energy cost when it is paid entirely by burning TRX:

Recipient’s USDT balanceApproximate Energy consumptionEstimated Energy cost
Greater than zero64,000 Energy6.4 TRX
Zero130,000 Energy13 TRX

These amounts exclude Bandwidth and any wallet or service charges. They also assume you have no Energy available from staking or delegation.

TRON’s documentation provides these approximate Energy consumption levels. Actual usage can vary with the contract’s Dynamic Energy factor, so the transfer preview for your specific recipient is more useful than a fixed fee quoted elsewhere.

Why does sending to some addresses cost more?

Updating a recipient’s USDT balance from zero to a positive amount requires more Energy than updating an existing positive balance.

The distinction is the recipient’s current USDT balance, not simply whether their wallet is new. An older address that has emptied its USDT balance can fall into the higher-cost case. Holding TRX or another token does not change its USDT balance.

TRON’s Dynamic Energy Model can also change the resources needed to execute the USDT contract. The official TRON documentation explains these differences.

How to calculate your estimated fee

For the Energy portion of a standard USDT transfer:

Energy fee in TRX = uncovered Energy × Energy price in sun ÷ 1,000,000

“Uncovered Energy” means the amount the transaction needs beyond what your sending account already has available.

For example:

  • Estimated requirement: 64,000 Energy
  • Available Energy: 30,000
  • Uncovered amount: 34,000 Energy
  • At 100 sun per Energy: 3.4 TRX

Bandwidth is separate. If the applicable Bandwidth allowance cannot cover the transaction, an additional TRX charge applies. At 1,000 sun per Bandwidth, a transaction consuming 350 Bandwidth would cost 0.35 TRX for that component if paid entirely in TRX.

Both rates are network parameters and can change. See TRON’s resource charging documentation for the calculation rules.

To estimate the dollar cost, multiply the total TRX charge by the current TRX price. For example, 6.4 TRX would equal $1.92 if TRX were $0.30. This is a calculation example, not a live dollar quote.

Energy and Bandwidth resources used for USDT transfers on TRON

Does transferring more USDT increase the fee?

A standard USDT transfer fee is not a percentage of the amount sent. Sending 1,000 USDT does not automatically cost ten times more than sending 100 USDT.

The transaction’s execution and available resources determine the network cost. Splitting one payment into several transfers repeats the resource requirement and can increase your total fees.

Why can your wallet show a different amount?

The table above is a reference estimate. Your wallet’s quote may differ because:

  • You already have Energy covering part or all of the execution cost.
  • The recipient’s USDT balance requires a different amount of Energy.
  • Bandwidth adds a separate charge.
  • Network parameters or contract conditions have changed.
  • The wallet includes an optional resource service and its charges.

Check whether the displayed number is an estimated fee, a maximum limit, or a service quote. These are not necessarily the same amount.

Can Energy rental lower the cost?

If you lack Energy, compare the TRX cost of the uncovered Energy with the total price to rent TRON Energy. Rental reduces your overall expense only when its price, including applicable charges, is lower than the cost it replaces. Bandwidth remains a separate consideration.

Network fee vs exchange withdrawal fee

When you send from your own wallet, your account’s resources affect the on-chain cost. When you withdraw from an exchange, the exchange sets the withdrawal fee shown before confirmation.

An exchange’s quoted USDT withdrawal fee therefore does not establish the fee for a transfer from your own wallet. Use the exchange’s withdrawal screen for exchange transfers and your wallet’s current transaction preview for self-custody transfers.
